Victor Braun

13 – 25 March 2018

French artist Victor has always been inspired to create and express himself with different types of medium. His work is based on emotional projection, he tries to reach an emotion, feel it, live it and carve this onto the canvas.

From the beaches of Normandy to growing up in the vast terrain of the Alps and finally studying in Paris, Victor Braun has consistently been in awe of the landscapes, light and atmosphere around him. After studying design and car design for 5 years, he now works as a bespoke car designer, painter and photographer. The complementary nature of photography and painting, has allowed him to examine some suggestion of reality in his paintings, and some abstraction in the reality of his photographs.

For his paintings, he treats the entire surface with brushes or sponge but also materials and tools that are not generally found in art shops. He tries to utilise tools differently in order to find new textures and relief. Along with building the pictures graphically in pursuit of some horizontality.

Working since 2010 in confined areas, the notions of oppression and the need to escape are omnipresent in his work. He confronts darkness and light, looking for contrast to sublimate color. His emotions are his motivation; the feeling of a place, a moment, a poem or an idea. Travelling and spending time learning about new cultures feeds his creativity as much as listening to music and reading.
