OXMARKET STRIDE OPEN ART COMPETITION

The entry form below is now live and accepting entries for the Oxmarket Stride Open Art Competition 2017.

DATES

The closing date for entries is 11th September.

Initially an online selection of works will be made. The selected works will form an exhibition in the whole of the Oxmarket Gallery, from which the prizewinners will be chosen.

Shortlisted artists will be notified on 18th September.

The exhibition runs 10th – 22nd October.

Prizegiving and artists’ private view takes place 6 – 8pm on Monday 9th October.

Delivery of selected work is between 23rd September – 1st October.

Unsold work must be collected on Sunday 22nd October.

PRIZES

Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:

£500: 1st Prize for Painting, award of the Stride Trophy

£250: 2nd Prize for Painting

£150: 3rd Prize for Painting

£250: Drawing Prize

£100: The Lawrence Williams Abstract Prize

£200: Chairman’s Prize

£100: Best Local Work

£50: People’s Choice Prize

The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

GUIDELINES

Painting – A painting is an image (artwork) created using pigments (colour) on a surface (ground) such as paper/canvas/board. The pigment may be in wet form such as paint (oils, acrylic, watercolour, etc) or in a dry form such as pastel if it is full covering.

Drawing – The term drawing is applied to works that can vary in technique using line and tone, it is the formation of lines by drawing on any surface, representation by lines, the arrangement of lines which determine form. A drawing is work produced using pencil, charcoal, crayons etc, pastels using mainly line, pen and ink and wash.

ENTRY PROCESS

The competition is open to artists living in Sussex, Hampshire, Surrey and the Isle of Wight. Artists may submit up to five paintings and/or drawings.

The competition is for paintings and drawings only. Printmaking, photography and digital work will not be accepted. There is a non-refundable entry fee of £12 per entry, or £10 for Oxmarket Gallery members and students. There is a 20% handling charge on work sold during the exhibition and the minimum sale price for entries is £80.

The maximum size for work is 100cm on its longest side.

Framing, Glazing, Fittings & Labels – All pictures submitted must be framed to a professional standard. Glass, metal or perspex clip frames are inadmissible. Unframed work (i.e. canvas on a stretcher) will only be considered if the edges are painted. Please attach D-Ring fixings to the back of the frame, one third of the way down. Mirror plates are not acceptable. One adhesive label must be fixed to the back of each picture with the artist’s name, title of work, medium and price. Also a hanging parcel label with the same information should be fixed so it will hang over the front to assist identification.

Insurance – All entries are submitted at the artist’s own risk. Insurance of artist’s work is not covered by the Oxmarket Gallery. Artists must arrange their own insurance.
